Caveman of the Year Award goes to...

Where I work, my job is usually not glamorous.  I'm the first one in/last one to leave...So when it comes time for an 8am Committee meeting, I'm there an hour early doing set-up and checks of the sort.  So by being in at 7am, I'm up at an ungodly hour.  Today's that day.  Tomorrow also, but one day at a time, people!

So you'll imagine my insta-smile when the Wookie of the house prepped the coffee machine last night to go off at 5:30am.  You tha' best, you tha', you tha' best!  And the history behind the "Female?" well I can't really remember it.  That's just what he's alternative nickname for me has been.  It's very Caveman-esque.  And I don't mind.  And yes, I do call him Male if I have to assert his need to be on the plains killing Woolly Mammoths.

I'm going to sit here and enjoy my coffee until the very last chance possible.  Then rush to get ready, after giving him a million kisses before I jolt out the door into a still-dark morning and hit the highway to work.

Thanks Handsome.  Love you.

The Moses Myers House

Right on the dot, we showed up for the 1pm tour of the Moses Myers House.  This house was the first permanent Jewish family in the area, and chronicles their rise through the 1800's, surviving the Civil War, and proceeding into the 20th century.  Plus their house is comprised of 80% actual furniture owned by the family.  Not too shabby.

So we entered through the kitchen, after passing through the courtyard of their plush pad.

And the tour on the schedule was the family's enduring of the Civil War.  But since it was just the 3 of us, so they decided to poll our interests and go from there.

Decided to pass up the sandals today for my Clarks: Artisans.

I'd love copper cookware.  But the upkeep is just too much.  So I'll leave it to the displays.

Look at this dining room.  In love.  And the jade serveware.  Adoring.  Oh, Mr. Wookie, if you ever go to the Far East on a deployment, please bring me some jade ware.  I'd totally give you a high-five!

This is their formal entryway.  Or as they called it, "the passthru."  I want a ceiling like that.  Now who do I have to pay??  And who wants to fund this purchase?

200-year-old couch

Fun Fact: The parking garage of the mall is butted up right behind the lot.  Yay for history.

Man date.

And behind this charming Colonial street is the new Bank of America tower.  How this place has such history yet is on the brink of boomin' into a great Downtown district.  This place will really be great in about 10 years after Norfolk gets the Light Rail finalized, and it gets cleaned up a lot.  It's in a great place now.  But it has so much potential though!

I really could use some sun.  But with sun comes freckles.  And with freckles comes the need to purchase new makeup because I'm a half tone "darker."  Besides, I don't like the way the freckles come in.  All on the face, none on the neck.  So my neck looks like the transplant from a corpse, while my face is a friendly attachment to my body.  But first, I need a new swimsuit.  Because no one likes a pasty body on the beach in a 5-year-old suit.  Oh wait, no one likes a pasty body in the first place.  Fail.

Today's Galavant Around Town

Why yes I feel muuuuuch better.  Thanks for asking.  So after my nap, we decided to hit the local Downtown Norfolk area for some Vitamin D.  And a test run on my new sandals.

During our visit to the Francis Land House when the visiting Oregonians were here, we learned of another historical house a few blocks from our place.  So naturally, we made the gaunter over to check it out.

One problem though...last tour was at 3pm.  We arrived there at 3:40.  Looks like we'll have to go back tomorrow.  Oh darn.  Something to do on an otherwise laundry-filled Sunday.

So instead, we went 5 blocks toward the water and enjoyed the sights along the river.

shadows...

Walking back from the water, we were attempting to find this used bookstore we passed by once last year.  Sadly, now that I'm working, I don't have the freedom to bop around the Downtown area like before.

 This book store.

All it's missing is the floating ghost lady like in Ghost Busters.

I decided we didn't need a plastic bag.  I'm still thinking about that shirt.

Yes, fiction came home with me.  Yes, it was a short debate to purchase or not.  How fitting.  It's about a guy who takes a trial medication that "cures" indecisiveness.  Hmmm, I wonder when this will actually become an available option?  But would I need it?  See.

And like nerds returning from the library, we find our seats and crack open our latest treasures.

Yes, that's a beverage.  It's past 5pm at this time.  Totally acceptable.

New sandals!

Iced tea.  And a margarita also.

 And for dinner, Chinese take-out!

And while waiting for our order, we caught up on last season's Deadliest Catch.  And yes, I'm aware that the new season starts this next week.  So we'll have to be acquiring it from our favorite source. *ahem* Collin *ahem*  It just won't be the same now, without chain-smoking Phil.  Speaking of, I need a Time Bandit shirt.

So we'll be trying the historical house again tomorrow.  Blogpost to come then.  But until that time, please enjoy your Saturday night.  Especially Ashley, the Accidental Olympian.  Happy Birthday!  Just don't wake up in a rotting hangover of a mess.  Or if you do, do NOT feel the need to workout.  Over. Rated.

Life List: Hungover Yoga. Check.

I feel sufficiently recovered from last night.  Finally.

Yoga wasn't what I thought it was going to be.  I felt fine when I got up.  I did take 2 precautionary aspirins just in case.  I took in a large quantity of water to offset the furball-esque inhabitant in my mouth.  I had a small bout of bathroom issues, so Dr. Pepto was in order.  But other than that, I felt great.  Nothing to really recover from when all we did was take in the live music at Snappers last night.

But then I was on my mat.  All the bending, folding, head-moving rotations made me feel oh-so-special.  I was getting hot, but not sweating.  I couldn't stand to be in class after the first 20 minutes.  I knew I had made a massively wrong decision when I thought that yoga wasn't that bad of an idea.  I'd forward fold and get the taste of bile on the back of my throat.  Now while I love the fact that playing with my toes in a stretch because my hamstrings loosen up considerably, the fact that I was doing hypno-birthing breathing techniques while focusing on my knees like I was in the middle of a Yurt-birthing center in Berkeley.  Not good.

I contemplated walking out a couple times.  Or settling into Child's Pose.  But I didn't want to be a bitch so I toughed it out.  Yes, too proud to be hungover and nauseous in yoga.  Because I have a reputation to uphold.  So never let them see you bleed.

The 50 yard walk home was excruciating.  I almost called Mr. Wookie to pick me up.  It was THAT bad.

So after a healthy American breakfast of bacon, eggs, and hash browns.  Because we love America in this house. And grease sounded good.  And I had toast too.  Can't forget the toast.

And now I've napped, which I think was the pinnacle need of recovery.  Mr. Wookie claims I could have been still drunk this morning before going to yoga.  Well in that case, I knocked 2 things off my Life List.  Score.

Who loves their job? This blogger!!

Let's for a moment pretend I'm Willie Wonka.  And let me take you on a magical journey through my chocolate factory. TWSS.  "Come with me...and you'll see...that the Snozzberries actually taste like vodka tonics with lemon."

Monday and Tuesday were relatively passive.  The calm before the storm.  The storm being a seminar with VIP speakers.  But Tuesday was not without it's fair share of fun.  Last minute catering changes 5 minutes before I was to leave for the day.  "Hi Wook, ya, I won't be getting out of here on time."  Almost 2 hours later, finally out.  Yes!

And what was on the post-work schedule???  The exhibition opener of the Norfolk Tides (Triple A to the Orioles) vs. Norfolk State University (one of the local "universities.")

Photographic proof of said game.

Wednesday = Seminar Day!  Busy busy busy!!  Turn this room!  Prep this!  Prep that!  Let's make this perfect, people!!  We have people to impress and standards to uphold!  Gorgeous!  We need this, this, and this!  Sir, it's already done, done, and done!

But wait!...Because mid-day there was a raffle for the Corporate hockey tickets.  Of course, I enter!  And...I win!!  So, shorry, I won't be staying late to help with the clean-up.  I've been here for 10+ hours.  I'm going to watch me some hockey.  Bye!

 Winner, winner, chicken tender dinner...

 (mascot)

 Admirals win!

Thursday was the downhill to Friday.  Or as we call it at work, Friday Eve.  But this time at work, there was the raffle for the Corporate baseball tickets...and I enter...and I win again!  Woop, woop.

The Wookie scowling because his picture was taken.  Standard.

 Now THESE are seats.

Yes...Right. Behind. The. Dugout. Jealous??

And for the all-around icing on the cake for today.  I've been off work since 1pm.  My boss told me for all my efforts this week, skip lunch, and take off.  Have a good weekend.  See you Monday.

Oh, okay, well if you insist.  I'll go right home.  Yacked to Mommy McD my whole commute home.  Then some more.  Scarfed a bowl of Cheerios down because I was too lazy to eat the lunch I totally packed for today.  And am now perusing ReusableBags.com.  Because I'm a hippie.  And it's what we do.  Now, should I get the "Plastic Bags Blow" shirt that I'm eye-ballin'??  Or is it too much message?  Now this is a HAPPY FRIDAY!

Yes, family, I am alive.

Just yesterday it was Monday and I was staring down a week of Tuesday and Wednesday being insanely busy, with a high chance of pollen in the air, and a low chance of getting a real lunch break.

Well, I survived, and not without instances of AWESOME.  But I can't find my cord-connector thingy to upload my pictures, so you'll have to wait to view my awesomeness.  That and my coffee is unbelievably good at the moment and I'm contemplating marriage.  To the coffee.  Because it's the best thing since Zappos.  Okay, I kid that last statement.  And I still need to show you my new sandals for the summer.  But that requires picture uploading.  Something not happening at the moment.  Hopefully today after work.

What did happen this week was a heat wave to the Eastern Seaboard.  Specifically Virginia.  While it was a manageable 70's last week, Monday rocketed to the 97 mark.  Cue in the humidity = shweaty balls.  And I'd have a screen shot of Weather.com for you, but Mr. Wookie's computer is currently down for the count.

Speaking of computers, for this week we've been a one-computer family.  Umm, in the wise words of one of Middle Sister's babysitting gigs, "I don't think I'm going to like that."  We both spend a ridiculous amount of time online when we're free from employment's responsibilities.  So now it's like Blogging vs. Flight Schedule Checking.  And sadly, Mr. Wookie's schedule is far more important than my mindless rants to the blogosphere.

And while on the topic of the Navy, Mr. Wookie had to attend a memorial yesterday for the E-2 pilot lost a week and a half ago.  It wasn't heavily noted in American news; but according to the BBC, the aircraft experienced mechanical failure.  The 2 NFOs and the co-pilot successfully bailed out.  The pilot never was found.  So yesterday, Mr. Wookie got to hear about how this pilot left his wife and 2 kids behind.  But saved 3 lives.  So while the pilot was doing his duty, what he signed up to do, it's still sad to see one of the already-small community lose a member.  So yes, I hug and kiss Mr. Wookie each and every day.

But on a lighter note, today is Friday.  And it's currently raining here.  2 parts to this excitement.  A.) Rain is AWESOME.  B.) Rain rinses away pollen.  Double yay.  The only downside to the rain.  Mr. Wookie's tee time is at 7am.  Now I know what you're thinking...my taxes are going towards funding his golf game????  Well, technically, yes.  He claims he's strengthening national security.  But I also think this tournament is for charity.

Speaking of charity, I'll hopefully be having a PSA for the March of Dimes to post up soon.

I think I need another cup of coffee.  *tweet* 30-second time out, Ging.

I'm going to have this Hazelnut coffee's babies.  De-lish-us!

But in reality, I just don't feel like getting ready for today, so I'm postponing by talking to you, folks.  Shower?  Overrated.  Packing a lunch?  Psssh.  Besides, I'm not done with my second cup of coffee yet.  No one likes to rush through caffeination (and it's totally squiggling under "caffeination," but I'm insisting it's a word).  Happy Friday!
