Deployment Update #1?

I think technically that's correct since it's been good, ol' fashioned crickets on the blog since that boy took off for yonder seas and potentially swampier temperatures (all port calls are up-in-the-air).

So I'll just leave you with our "Donut of Misery" (or as I like to call it, "Countdown Until I Have to Stop Living Like a Frat Guy"). It's not too bad for someone (me) who's gotten used sleeping diagonally, leaving a stack of cereal bowls on his desk (muhaha!), avoiding dishes until the weekend, and sitting on the back deck after a kick-ass day of work Cheers-ing myself with a glass of wine and a cigar.

Yes, I realize I should have been a lesbian.

Here's to Friday! My second one this week...after I woke up this morning, with an extra pep in my step, thinking, "Finally, Friday!"

Screech. And not the Saved by the Bell character. Well that sucks. It's only Thursday.

The house is quiet this Memorial Day.

When the squadron is home, and the "96" is issued from the Command, the weekend is spent with our fellow squadronmates and their better halves celebrating the history of the Navy, the tribulations of the fore fathers, and the coming schedule of deployment/detachment/training exercises.

But this summer is different. Mr. Wookie is amidst the deep, blue sea aboard a carrier that's rich in its own traditions. I assume (only), that they'll enjoy the camaraderie and reflection of a deployed squadron that's serving their country to the best of their ability. Yes, email goes down; yes, the twin bed grows old; but yes, it's your turn on the great open ocean while I hold down the homefront by working hard and playing harder.

I'll think of Mr. Wookie as I tackle the yardwork, deep clean the house, and enjoy the beautiful summer sun that's hit the California coastline. And then he'll think of me when he gets the random access to port calls and he hunts for a post card to mail home.

Happy Memorial Day from Wookie & Co. to you!
