Military Decision 457: East vs. West

So you don't go scrolling through the whole post looking for the final decision, know that it's hasn't been made yet.  So your breathing can resume a normal pulse, and you can read the following information in comfort.

Okay, let's get started.

The other week the boys (plus one girl, but she doesn't mind being lumped into the classification) were asked to duke it out between the group about who got which slot.  There were 5 Wests, 3 Easts.  The class leader (the oldest guy in the group) was given West, because he has experience in California.  The one girl was given West because they need more females out there.  1 married guy with kids took East, because moving just wasn't their top priority.  What's left?  3 West, 2 East.  And 5 people to argue it out.

Well the other married guy (with a kid) wanted Japan.  Not really an option.  Long story short: The military doesn't want to move a family to Japan in this economic weather.  Understandable.  And since he realizes the heated discussions going between the rest of the group about West Coast, he volunteers to take East.  What's left: 3 West, 1 East.

Now the classification between East vs. West is aircraft.  There's one that's strictly East (it's the older version), and the other is 90% West (which is the newer version) - with the exception on 1 squadron being on the East.  Just so you know.

So the debate continues for an hour.  Each stating their case of why they want West.  But knowing that no one would budge on their opinion, it was nominated that drawing out of a hat would prove the most diplomatic result.  So names went in.  The class leader came in, drew a paper, read a name, and left.  Decision done.

Wook's status: West Coast.

Percentage: 80% (not sure whether or not the one East Coast squadron would pick him up).

But then...

We're out at a Winging Party Friday night (big party, lots of people I didn't know, open bar, beer pong [which wook man-handled 6 games in a row before being defeated - sorry to those who got drunken texts from the guy], and a conversation about a.) how soon till they Wing, and b.) the thought that some of the squadrons may be doing some coastal shifting.

There was a statement whether they could Wing before Valentine's Day.  Of next year.  Wook says there's really no knowing.  They're on a new syllabus with no technical end determined.  They'll finish when they finish.  What I thought was going to be a 6-month journey, with a party in August as to not disrupt Beaver games, might turn into Spring Break of next year.  And you just know how I love not having things planned out.

And now something about potential squadron coast changes?  Wook has no idea.  I'll ask questions to which he has no information on.  It's really not up to him at all.  What started out as a diplomatic drawing out a hat has turned into being puppet master'd.  So now, the only thing we're certain of is the aircraft.  Wook's is the 2000 (the newer one).

I wish I had more information for the masses.  But I don't.  Neither does wook.

So I'll leave you with what we know.

Wook's status: Hawkeye 2000

Squadron Coast: TBD (which according to my math is 50/50).
